Yeah, channel-bots go beyond the OBS forums' scope, there. They're handy to have, but you'd be better suited checking out the community/forums for the bot you're looking at including.
Twitch chat is just a modified form of IRC; it uses /query messages for side-channel communication (setting colors and things) and has some requirements to log in, but many streamers will use either a standalone bot from their webserver host (if they have system-level access), or just run a copy of mIRC with the necessary login alterations and a mIRC-script bot (Gruberbot is one of these).
Definitely better to ask about that on the bot's forums rather than here though. :)
