Question / Help Best settings?

I was just wondering what the best OBS settings would be for streaming StarCraft II.

PC Specs:

i5 2500K - Overclocked to 4.5GHz w/ Corsair H100i
Corsair XMS3 16GB DDR3 RAM 1600MHz
Gigabyte HD7950 3GB

Internet:

Not sure if I could stream at 720p or not?

With that upload speed you have to downscale to 480p or even 360p and use bitrate 550 or 550 (use CBR) and maybe 64Kbps AAC audio. And fps to about 25. Your upload speed limits you a lot. So 720p would be blurry as hell.

Your hw would be able to stream SC2 at even 720p 60 fps but your connection limits A LOT.

Try OBS Estimator https://obsproject.com/estimator
(E: just to make sure 0.87Mb is 870Kbps and estimator asks it in Kbps)

Yeah I'm just trying to figure out the best settings in terms of clarity on stream. I don't want to really stream if it's going to be a blurry mess as I suspect it will be.

since you oc'ed your i5 quite a lot you could try 650 bitrate/buffer 720p@25 with faster preset and see how your cpu usage gets up

Tried this, CPU usage stayed around high 60% - low 70s%. Looked fine to me although I'd prefer 30FPS but not sure if that would be do-able.

you can give it a try but it will push your cpu usage again .... and dont forget that sc2 is actually quite cpu based

OK. Upgraded my Internet so wondering what sort of settings to use for streaming SC2 with my connection like this?

Run an upload test at -- http://testmy.net/upload (be sure to pick a server near you). It is more accurate than Speedtest is. Although still not 100% accurate. Just more accurate.

Regardless, how about just trying?

I'm sure you could get away with CBR 1500 Kbps in 720p @ 60 FPS, actually. Try it and see what happens.

Oh yea..he is from London. So he already lives near the server. My bad. (For most people that is not the case so they need to choose a test server near the nearest twitch server. For example in my case Frankfurt, Amsterdam or London.)

Did an upload test on that site with a server in Amsterdam (12MB of random data) and upload was 1.8Mbps. Not sure what FPS, resolution and encoding settings to use to be honest.

As per a previous post of mine:

Just capture the game in its native resolution and use the downscale function (using the Lanczos filter) to scale it down to 720p. What resolution do you play it at?

Hmm OK. When you say 1500 CBR, just to double check, you do mean to tick the 'Use CBR' box right? If so, do I enable or disable CBR padding?

CBR padding is enabled by default, just leave it where it is. And yes, I do mean 'Use CBR'. It will grey out the option to specify a quality. Because that is what CBR is... a Constant Bit Rate. This will ensure a more stable stream, without sudden spikes. Spikes could make it harder for your viewers to watch or might give you unexpected lag spikes on your end.

bitrate of 1200 to 1500 on "faster" preset with "720@45" and take a look at your cpu usage while encoding high motion scenes
