Hi Guys,

i have a new PC

  • Intel I7 3770 - not overclocked
    GeForce GTX 670
    16 GB RAM memory
3,5 mb Upload speed on http://www.testmy.com with 33MB upload size.

I combine OBS with Dxtory.

When i play Dota 2 i have 120 FPS without streaming.

What would YOU think is possbile. Which QUality and which resolution is possible ?^^

You know that your pc/internet is good enough to be able to stream everything at any resolution / fps you want right?

There is no need whatsoever to use dxtory with obs !

Unless he wants to capture older games that uses DirectX 8 perhaps?

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 635 3.1 Mhz
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5670 1920 x 1080
RAM: 4 GB
Upload Speed
1.80 MB/s
2.07 MB/s

Current Settings
Use CBR: ☑
Max Bitrate: 1500
Buffer Size: 1500
Audio Bitrate: 128
Minimize Network Impact: ☑
Downscale: 2.25
FPS: 25
Use Multithread Optimization: ☑
x264 CPU Preset: Faster
Force audio to since to video time: ☑

Link to my stream, mostly L4D2. I average about 94% CPU usage and 1700 Upload while streaming. Is there anything I can change/do to make my stream even better? I've thought about unchecking Network impact for testing, and increase FPS while setting CPU preset to Veryfast. I still want some quality though that isn't going to make my stream look really pixelated.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I don't want to make a new thread either. Thought it'd be good to post in this thread.

Hey Mr.Niceguy, no problem . I am always glad if i can help . Are you using Game Capture, do you have Windows aero disabled?(if not try it out , it gets rid of 90% of the problems with weird feelings ingame)? Which game are you having issues with?

As for your question ball2hi, it depends on what you prefer . Your settings are pretty much close to perfect to get the best quality out of your system / connection. And your stream looks perfectly fine to me (no blur or pixelation even if you turn around fast). A big plus is your low bitrate so chances for a laggy stream are pretty low ( you know , overloaded twitch servers and their problems ;D ). On a sidenote i am really impressed that you can play/stream left4dead2 with your specs , that speaks for OBS (Good work Jim <3 ) since i bet with Xsplit or other alternatives you would have issues / lesser quality.

The only thing you can do is lower you audio codec to 92 to have a tiny bit more reserves for your image quality (but i doubt that anyone would notice). Personally i always prefer a higher Fps stream over better resolution . For example i would prefer a 60Fps 720p stream over a 1080p @ 30fps stream , but thats just me .

So maybe try lowering your audio to 92 or a tad lower and set your bitrate/buffer to 1600 and see if you get high ping if not its fine. Raise the fps to 30 and try the very fast preset to get some load off your cpu. For Left 4 Dead which has quite some high motion scenes, i would recommend a lower "quality balance" setting of around 6-7 to have sharper non pixelated high motion scenes.

(these settings should give you the same quality as your stream now is, but it should look more fluidly due to 30fps and also reduce cpu load!)

Btw , people think the faster the preset the better but it is actually the other way around LOWERING your preset will give you more strain on your cpu but better image quality at a lower bitrate . But if you say your system runs close to maximum i would definitely use the "very fast" preset.

"Force audio to sync to video time" I'm going to have to rename before next release. I think people are misunderstanding its function. It shouldn't be used unless your desktop sound actually goes out of sync with your desktop video, which should really never happen. And even if you are using VAC or something which returns bad timestamps it automatically turns itself on anyway.

And yea, you should almost never need to set it away from the "veryfast" preset. "faster" has negligible quality gain for its increased CPU cost.

Generally people shouldn't mess with the advanced section. CBR is an exception though, I moved that to the main encoding settings section in the latest tests.

Hi Dariofubar,

YOU really helped me out !

@ball2hi... you NEVER do that.. make another thread, you don´t even have the SAME settings that i have..
so make antoher post, it is getting really confusing right now.

So Dario back to you:

It is really awsome. Dxtory made my streaming days a living hell. Witch SUCH a good and new PC i couldn´t get a nice
720p 30 fps...

Now that i ONLY use Obs it it much better.

I totally forgot do disable Aero... I will do that today after work and i hope it fixes my in game lag.

I am using software capture -> inner window of the Game Dota 2. Is here anything wrong ?
Should i switch to game capture?

Thanks Dario you really made my day.. awsome that ppl like you help out !

EDIT: @ JIM In which relation should i set MAX Bit rate and Buffer ? I have now Maxbitrate like 4000 - Buffer Max 8200
since someone told in a guide " Make Buffer twice as big as Maxbitrate + a bit"

Is that totally wrong ?

Thanks

P.S. I really want to stream Dota 2 1080p 30fps without any lags :-)

Setting the buffer to twice the bitrate is usually not recommended because it can make the transmission inconsistent which can negatively affect some viewers. Especially for like 4000 bitrate. You'd have better motion quality but some viewers could start having latency issues (at least I think). Your bitrate is high enough anyway to where that doesn't matter.

Inner window is fine, on higher end computers the difference between window capture and game capture is negligible. Though feel free to try both out and see which you like better (though just make sure not to use these capture methods at the same time, and unchecking them doesn't count, delete the ones you aren't using instead of using the checkbox functionality, the checkbox functionality is more for temporarily removing sources more than anything)
