I have just bought an UltraStudio Mini Recorder https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/ultrastudio/techspecs#W-DLUS-04 to try and stream the hdmi from my ELEC 720P AHD Security Surveillance System http://www.elec.com/en/detail-40.aspx using OBS software

and I am having problems trying to get it to find the hdmi out put from the DVR could you tell me what type of stream is coming out of it? It works fine when I plug the hdmi from my DVR into my projector....

I think its just maybe a matter of changing the settings on the DVR...

I think you're a but confused on how OBS works. OBS streams out over RTMP. Does your security system support RTMP ingest?

just to be clear i want it to go

cctv -> dvr -> hdmi -> UltraStudio Mini Recorder -> thunderbolt -> Macbook pro -> OBS -> Facebook

Ahh, ok that makes more sense. Sorry I was thinking something a bit different.

So the issue is that the UltraStudio isn't picking up the output from the DVR, that makes a lot more sense :)

What operating system are you on? Can you get me a log from OBS? Help menu, log files, upload current log and link here.

very strange
as cctv -> dvr -> hdmi ->projector works...
and
7d SLR -> hdmi -> UltraStudio Mini Recorder -> thunderbolt -> Macbook pro -> OBS -> Facebook works

been trying all different settings... just tried the VGA out without success but I think that was due to my vga->hdmi convertor being kaput

actually just had a thought... the dvr also has a sdi out which could go into the UltraStudio Mini Recorder...

Check the Blackmagic Desktop Video application to see what input is being sent to the UltraStudio. It should list it.

Have you adjusted the settings on the Ultrastudio recorder to convert HD 720 to SD on the hdmi input to see if that works?

Does the DVR output have DHCP copy protection on it?

ive just managed to get it to work by running it through a Composite RCA Video (AV) + S-Video to HDMI Converter like this lenkeng.net/Index/detail/id/47 from the sdi out on the dvr

what does this mean? the dvr is obviously sending out a weird signal?

It is possible the the native HDMI output has HDCP (copy protection) on it. You are gettingtround that by taking a signal from a source that does not have HDCP.

Some cheap HDMI splitters strip out the HDCP bits in the stream. one of those in the feed would give you an HDCP free source.

I doubt it - HDCP is to there to prevent copying of digital media. It was introduced to prevent copying of DVDs and the like.
