Question / Help Should I not deviate from standard stream settings?

If you want, you can open this and let it load while you read:

I can stream at 1080p30 or 720p60. However, in my opinion and in my experience messing around with settings, 30fps is too choppy. I have found that 864p45 is looks very nice as a compromise between those two options, but I haven't come across anyone who endorses this setup. So I feel a bit odd doing it. Is this actually a good setup, or am I imagining the benefits? The link at the top is a video showing my settings.

864p is my personal recommendation over 1080p. With the Lanczos downscale filter, it can look nearly indistinguishable from 1080p, with the big benefit of not straining your CPU nearly as much as full 1080p encoding. If you don't want to go with 60fps, it's recommend to do 48FPS over 45FPS for technical reasons (the details of which I'm not entirely sure of myself, but it has something to do with frame timings!)

You can check out my stream in the link in my signature. SC2 and DotA2 are similar kinds of streaming requirements, and I get extremely good results with 864p. I'll even boldly say my SC2 stream is one of the clearest and smoothest looking streams out there. Do note that I have done a fair amount of tweaking the custom x264 settings to get my SC2 streams as clear as they are off 3000 bitrate. You may need to use more bitrate if you want it to look just as clear, or start researching x264 and what all the options do.
