I have a windows 8.0 laptop with an i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM. The GPU is an NVidia GeForce GT650M with 2GB of video memory. I run the laptop with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 60hz.
I installed OBS version 0.638b for Windows 7/8 on 23rd January 2015. This worked perfectly and I was able to record some long videos of gameplay, mostly Planetside 2 and Team Fortress 2.
A few weeks later version 0.65b became available so I updated to the new version. Since then OBS will only run for a few minutes before crashing. In the case of Star Wars the Old Republic (SWTOR) and Heroes and Generals (H&G) I get a WOOOPS! crash message and in the case of TeamFortress 2 I get an error message indicating that the video card has disappeared when OBS crashes. I have tried Monitor, Window and Game Capture and they all crash, but sometimes with differing results (in some cases some very strange video previews were recorded).
The crash report shown after a few minutes when I attempt to record SWTOR and H&G gameplay is shown below (dump file attached). The error message when I attempt to record TeamFortess 2 gameplay is:-
Texture-> Map failed: 0x887a0005 0x887a0005
Your video card disappeared from the system. Please check for possible hardware / driver issues. This error can also occur if you have enabled opencl in x264 custom settings (I'm not sure what this means but for each source created I have left the settings at their default values).
The only other software that has changed on the laptop since installing OBS 0.638b is the Windows 8 operating system (via Windows Update Service). So just rule out Windows Updates I'm intending to re-install OBS version 0.638b to see if it still works OK. I'll post the results here in a few days.
SWTOR / H&G crash file.
