Question / Help CPU Preset in relation to Upload Bandwidth used

Hello,

Just a quick question regarding this matter as I couldn't find too much information googling it.

As far as I know, it seems that using the "Faster," preset instead of the default "veryfast" preset, puts more load onto your CPU to allow reductions in the upload bandwidth that is used. So, in essence, this would be ideal for users that have good CPUs and not-so-hot upload speed?

Hardware:
CPU: i7 3770k @ Stock
RAM: Samsung Green DDR3-1600mhz CL11 @ 1866mhz CL9
MOBO: Gigabyte Z77x-UD3H Rev 1.1
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 670 OC
SSD/HDD: OCZ Vertex 3 90GB/Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200RPM

Maintained Upload Speed: ~2240-2300kbps
Maintained Download Speed: ~30000kbps

Another 2 quick questions would be, can the i7 3770k handle the "Faster," preset? Currently streaming Battlefield 3 (Ultra/High Settings) and Starcraft 2 (High/Medium).

Does lowering in game graphics quality help reduce bandwidth?

Thanks in advance.

Hey there, you forgot to mention your desired resolution you want to stream at.
Overall I have to say that you need to test it for every special game. Battlefield and Starcraft are pretty CPU intensive (and as far as i know, no matter what graphics settings you use). Very Fast is the standard for a very good reason ;)
On a two PC setup this looks different. You have a 2nd PC which only does encoding. And even then, you need a powerful cpu to do faster or fast presets on any resolution above 360p!

So I´d recommend you just test it for yourself if your CPU can handle it while playing, there is unfortunately no exact table you could calculate the usage with.

Greetings Jack!

You might save at best 150-200 bitrate in most cases. It's really not worth lowering the preset unless you have one of the sandy bridge-E CPUs, or are using a two PC setup.
