I am having an issue here with my custom build. Very annoying and there doesn't seem to be any fixes listed anywhere on the internet, so now I am in desperation mode. It is very frustrating and preventing me from live streaming.

Whenever I open a broadcasting program such as xSplit, Wirecast or Open Broadcaster and try to start up my live stream for my Twitch channel, my computer completely locks up and requires a hard reboot. Mouse doesn't move. Keyboard lights lock. I have left my computer on for around 20 minutes, just to see if it would regain functionality. But that never worked either.

Sometimes I can stream for a couple of hours, but mainly it happens within the first 20 minutes. My computer is more than capable of streaming, so let me list my specs below.

OS: Windows 7 64-bit
CPU: Intel i7 930 @ 2.8Ghz
Ram: 12 GB DDR3
HDD: 60GB SSD / 500GB WD HDD
GFX: Gigabyte GTX-680
Mobo: ASUS P6X58D-E

Most people said that they can recreate the issue by having multiple browser windows open or having anything that uses flash player open as well. I have closed all browsers and made sure no processes were running in the background. Closed all programs besides Open Broadcaster and the game I am trying to stream. But my computer still freezes.

I even read somewhere on the internet that I need to update my BIOS, which I did, same issue. I also had an older Radeon HD5870 (x2 SLI) GFX setup in the past, same issue. This issue also occurred when I had 2 500GB HDD set up in RAID. So the SSD is not the issue. Another interesting part to add. I use to stream console games like Halo from the Xbox360 using an internal capture card called Blackmagic Intensity Pro. Very very rarely, I would actually have the computer freeze up on me when playing on the console and streaming. So in a sense, it isn't pertained to ONLY PC gaming.

I have turned off my dual screens and turned the game visuals to ultra-low, still happens. Adjusted broadcaster settings from 60fps down to 30fps, same problem. I have even went as far as running Prime95 for hours. Computer handles it and does not shut down or freeze. Completely stable. However, I have recently found out a new way to force this issue without using the broadcaster.
My motherboard uses a program called "Turbo V" and "EPU-6 Engine" where you can adjust your CPU performance and set profiles for gaming, performance, quality, power saver, etc. I got curious and turned up the CPU frequency on the EPU 6 Engine, after getting a splash message that warns the user, my computer froze in the same exact manner as it would if I tried live streaming and running the game at the same time.

I am all out of troubleshooting steps and a part of me feels that my CPU may be faulty, although I have tested stable on torture tests and can play many games on High settings without dropping any frames. It is only when I have a streaming software open. Please help!! :((

Unfortunately if your PC is freezing this generally indicates a hardware or driver problem. Check all your drivers are up to date and try reducing any overclocks. You can also try running the LinX test for a good stress test, it's in the guides forum.

Actually, I think soopah may be on to something here. Given the fact Prime95 did run fine for hours on end it does not suggest an overheating or faulty CPU issue. If it had been either of those, Prime95 most certainly would have triggered it. And given the fact you can induce it yourself by OC-ing the CPU I actually am inclined to think it's a faulty PSU, not a faulty CPU.

And a faulty PSU really is something you need to address as soon as possible. As the PSU is the one component that is basically connected to every other component in your PC and consequently is the one single component that is more than capable of ruining every other component.

I cannot guarantee it's the PSU but it is a definite possibility.

Regarding not crashing games when running them on high -- a lot of that fluff is GPU heavy, not CPU heavy. And as such it may simply not have triggered the set of circumstances that makes the PC freeze up completely.

I am getting the exact same issue! Except in my case when I try the linx test it actually freezes my PC and basically replicates the issue when I stream. Hopefully this forum isn't dead because I really want to fix this issue.
Here are my specs:

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro
CPU: Intel i7 4790k
RAM: 32 GB DDR3 1600MHz
SSD: 1TB SSD
GPU: 1 EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 4GB GDDR5 (I'm actually adding a second gtx 980 tomorrow when it arrives)
Mobo: Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1
PSU: EVGA Supernova 850 G2

I hope someone can help!
