Can pipewire be removed, replaced, or ignored?

I never had pipewire in my previous version of OBS, and from all i can find, it is the source of my problems. That being popups that don't go away when i start OBS, and when i turn on a window capture element it makes that window start to stutter severely. Other places have mentioned using an Xcomposite window capture, which i believe is what my old version had. But i do not have that option. Is there a way to replace pipewire with xcomposite or at least add xcomposite so i can just not use pipewire?

Chat GPT helped me find a solution. Thank the makers! I had no idea this log in option existed. Ever since i updated to a new Ubuntu, this wayland thing (whatever it is) has been a major thorn in my side.

It seems like the issue is related to the absence of Xcomposite support on Wayland, as OBS Studio is running in Wayland mode on your system. Wayland does not fully support certain features like window capture, and as a result, the Xcomposite option might not be available.

Here are a couple of things you can try:

  1. Switch to Xorg:
    • Log out of your current session.
    • Before logging back in, click on the gear/cogwheel icon on the login screen.
    • Choose "Ubuntu on Xorg" or a similar option that uses Xorg instead of Wayland.
    • Log in and launch OBS Studio again to see if Xcomposite is now available.
