SOLVED with a workaround -- Decided to install a different INF by manually updating the driver software within Device Manager. Although the camera would still not display within my 'Microsoft LifeCam' program, I was able to get it detected in OBS at certain resolutions.

Hello,

My issue is that when using a USB extension cord, my camera feed is black. I have confirmed that the camera does work with other software and can display up to 680x480 at 30fps. I have tried changing the resolution and FPS within OBS, but I continuously experience a black screen on my 'preview stream'. I have even gone down to the lowest resolution, but to no avail.

Has anyone experienced a black screen for the camera? Is there anything I can try? I believe I am not on the latest revision, so I will try upgrading, but would love to hear some ideas.

Thanks!

Sorry. Meant to mention that. Microsoft LifeCam Studio.

Also, is there any camera recommended for longer runs?

I'm able to get the camera to display in another program so I know it's not a problem with the cable or connection. I've tried different resolutions and framerates but OBS is just displaying anything.

Are there are specific things I should check for a black screen?

If you're currently using the 64bit try the 32bit, also make sure that nothing else is occupying it when trying.

Looks like I'm on whatever the default is.. Likely 32 bit. Where can I get the 64 bit version? Think that would help? The most updated version of OBS didn't work.

It should have installed both versions. Look for the shortcut in your start menu, or in the 32-bit folder of your OBS installation.

Ah thanks. Any added benefit in running the 64-bit version? I assume the shortcut created by default was 32-bit. Never wandered to that folder to find the 64-bit version before.

There is a slight encoder performance increase, up to 5% in most cases.
