Bug Report 100% GPU Usage while screen capturing.

Hello

I recently started using OBS and i got some huge problems streaming with screen- cap.

Lets say i play either League of Legends or World of Warcraft and wants to stream = my GPU usage goes to 100% and i start to get fps-drops. It goes from clean 60 (vsync enabled) down to around 30 fps with stuttering. I have never experiance microstuttering but i guess thats what i feel.

Tried without v-sync and that didnt change a thing more than that the fps goes to about 200+ and the gpu has to work more = more heat.

As soon as i turn the stream off the fps goes back up and my GPU-usage goes down.

My Cpu usage without the stream up is about 30% and with it on 55-70%.

Ive tried different screen-resolutions and stream-settings and it does not matter.

The only thing that works is game-capture. Changes nothing on the GPU and the gameplay and stream is clean.

Im running:

i5 2500k, not clocked for now. (tried with and without clock)
8gb 1600mhz ram
gigabyte g1 sniper m3 motherboard.
double 6950 graphics cards (Crossfire) tried with it on and off.
27" IPS-panel at 2560x1440 . Tried 1920x1080 to test that out and it did not matter.
850W corsair power supply.
Fully watercooled system. (cpu+ both gpus) around 50 degrees at full load. (nothing overclocked)
Windows 7 64-bit legit version.
Running catalyst 13.1 atm and have tried earlier versions before a complete reinstall and that didnt change a thing. (different CAP-files aswell)
I dont know if i have forgotten something but please ask. I will answer as soon as possible.

You added a Monitor Capture source for some reason, get rid of it.

Isnt that what i want ?

I thought monitor and screen-cature was the same thing ? If not, where the hell is screen capture ?

Monitor Capture is horrendously slow on Windows 7, even with Aero off. You really should be sticking to just Game Capture. If you MUST use Monitor Capture to show your desktop between games or something, it should really be on its own separate scene, when performance doesn't matter.

Alright, thats what i thought after your last response.

How come it worked before and now in other streming programs like FFsplit ?

Either way... what program do i add in "another scene" ? Explorer.exe ?

I havent tried it out myself yet since im at work but it would really help me out if you explained how to do it.

You add a second scene in OBS and put your monitor capture source in there. There is a plugin in the Plugins forum under the Work In Progress section that you can even use to have it switch scenes for you automagically. All the info you need to set that up is in the plugin's thread and you can ask questions there as I'm not personally familiar with it.
