Question / Help 100 CPU even when doing nothing

MacOS and OBS report CPU usage differently. When Activity Monitor says 100%, it means 100% of one core, so a single app that uses multiple cores can go up to 200%, and an OBS instance that Activity Monitor reports as using 100% CPU would only be seen as 50% by OBS.

That said, you've got multiple JSON errors in your log indicating a problem with either scenes or profiles, so you might want to delete them and start over?

The recording test doesn't show any significant number of frame drops, so I think you're good there.

Aye there's nothing wrong with frame drops... the issue happens consistently when displaying a window capture (of any app - Chrome, Ableton Live) in scene. Fans go up, CPU maxes out.. and the problem I'm having is that causes audio clipping (trying to livestream music production). Apart from getting a new computer.. thoughts?

Right so messing about some more.. and it seems like Window Capture is the culprit. Only way I can run Window Capture (on any app) without maxing my cpu is by lowering the fps to 5 or under.

However, if I switch over to Display Capture, 720p at 30fps is golden. No fans.. OBS at 12%cpu.. is this a bug or am I an idiot? Ideally I'd like to just capture the one window rather than my entire desktop but this is a valid workaround for the time being.

Window capture is definitely the least performant method on MacOS by a long way. You can add a "crop to window" on display capture to exclude part of the screen if you need to.
